I was at a restaurant when the waitress attempted to inform us of the special of the day?
after a few failed attempts at communicating the special…
Waitress: English?
Me: Yes. (hoping for some clarity)
W:(realizing she doesn’t actually know the correct English word)…umm…do you know Bambi?
Me: (baffled and looking at Trish for help) Bambi, who’s Bambi?
Trish: (before the waitress can elaborate) oh! You mean deer?
W: (relieved) Yes…deer. We have Deer Schnitzel today.
Me: (chuckling) ooooooh…Rehschnitzel.
W: (nodding enthusiastically) Yes, Rehschnitzel.
Of course I only know that the German word for Deer is Reh because of a friend of mine with the last name Rehmeyer.
I’m sure the BambiSchnitzel was delicious, though I decided on another entree. And thus concludes yet another adventure in German.

This week’s Geek is John Lasseter. He is currently the Chief Creative Officer at Pixar Animation Studio and has directed such films as Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, and most recently Cars.
This past quarter I had my freshmen pick a Geek – someone who has significantly influenced technology – and then write and record a mock interview(4 or 5 minutes) with their Geek. This quarter they are presenting them to the class, and I will provide them here for you to listen to if you so desire. First up are the founders of Google, Sergei Brin and Larry Page.
