My kids in 8th grade were typing quietly today, when one of my students asked
Student: Mr. Klein, is this typing program Christian?
Me: (confused) I don’t think so, why?
S: Well because there was a bad word in the last paragraph.
M: Really? Are you sure? Show me where it is.
She then pointed to a word on the screen: assess.
After a short laugh, I explained that the word assess was not the word she thought it was.
I guess you never know what you’re going to learn in Computer class.
My 7th graders in Study Hall are always trying to come up with new things to do instead of actually doing their work.
Today a few of the boys were leaning over the same desk and trying to stifle giggles. This, of course, caught my attention and I investigated the scene. What I found were handwritten Yo Momma jokes on small scraps of paper. I confiscated the few that I saw and am presenting them here unedited.
We had a game the day after returning from Christmas break and well, you could tell we hadn’t practiced in a few weeks. After a shaky start, we started to get some movement on offense and some good looks at the basket even if we couldn’t get those shots to fall. In any case we were overmatched again by a very good and well coached AIS team, falling to 1-2 on the season.
We have a game coming up next week against ICSB, a Christian school in Budapest, and are hoping to show some more improvement in that game. We’ve been working on some offensive plays, that I’m hoping will produce a little fruit.
I guess this a little late, but here’s the annual VCS single guys Christmas card.
Why mustaches? Well, I mustache you, why not? I’m pretty sure the 70s are making a comeback.
Actually I think I’m going to save the mustache story for another post.

The Middle School Boys Basketball season started off this December with two games before Christmas break. It is a rebuilding year for us as we only have 1 returning player for last year, but I’m excited about the influx of new talent on the team.
We kicked off our season with a win against DIS, but suffered our first defeat in our next game against a stacked AIS team. We’ve shown some progress, but there’s still a lot of room for improvement.
We have another game against AIS this Tuesday, our second day back from school, which isn’t ideal, and hopefully they haven’t forgotten everything over the break.
It’s been great working with this group of boys, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.
