Video of the Week – Fix My Frame

November 3, 2007 by Matt

This week we have an advertisement for a competition to “fix” Mr. Stockett’s frame. This video is a parody of MTV’s Pimp My Ride, except instead of XZibit we have 2V, and instead of a car we have a cheap Ikea picture frame. I think this was our highest budget film to date. I mean, 5 Euro. Wow!

The version shown during chapel was digitally remastered during 4th block. Check out all the sweet special effects that didn’t make it into the Chapel video.

Human Clue

November 3, 2007 by kleineklein

Well, it finally happened. I got talked into participating in a high school activity. The event was Human Clue and I was the criminal Coral Reef. Several of the teachers dressed up as criminals and our rooms were used like the rooms on a Clue board. The students worked in teams to solve the crime. Miss Biel, one of the high school math teachers, was the victim. At the beginning of the night she was “murdered.” Then, she followed the students around acting as her ghost. She’s a little scary!

The students had to go room to room asking each criminal for clues. We had three cards we could show them – a room card, a suspect card, and a weapon card. They could only pass to adjoining rooms. Each team had a different solution which made it even more interesting. It turns out that I did kill Miss Biel with the ballet slippers. Yikes! It was really fun.

I was Coral Reef and my weapon of choice was seastars. Think ninja stars only way cooler. 🙂 The other criminals were:
Binary Brotha – weapon of choice: dorkstick (usb stick)
The Mad Scientist – weapon of choice: dry ice
Miss Dancy Pants – weapon of choice: ballet slippers
Miss Coffee Queen – weapon of choice: mug
Mr. and Mrs. Plastic – weapon of choice: frisbee
Mr. Samurai – weapon of choice: Samurai sword
Super Girl – weapon of choice: SAT Study Guide

Arnold Apples

November 3, 2007 by kleineklein

A few weeks ago when I went to the grocery store, I was greeted by this display of “Arnold Apples.” I laughed out loud. The sign says:

Arnold – Der Apfel aus der Heimat Arnold Schwarzeneggers
Arnold – The power apple from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s home country

The packaging is quite descriptive:

Healthy and strong

“Arnold” the Incomparable

This apple grows and ripens at the foot of the Austrian Alps in Styria with its fertile soil and unique microclimate of warm days and cool nights. Lovingly tended by skilled and dedicated fruit growers in their small and medium-sized orchards it is a rich natural source of health, strength, and flavor.

The cashier giggled at me when I brought several of these apples to the checkout. I just couldn’t resist. Being from California, I had to buy a few. Of course, I bought one for our business manager who is also from California. He was equally amused.

The packaging is in German and English, so maybe this means that Arnold Apples are headed your way soon!

Romanian Visit

November 2, 2007 by kleineklein

Today we had a surprise visit from a Christian school from Romania. Apparently, they are required by their government to take their students on some kind of trip out of the country. They chose to come to Vienna and somehow found us! There were thirteen students and about eight adults. They came to our class and sang several praise songs that they had learned in English. Then they stayed to watch our class perform the Bible skits they had been working on. It was a really fun surprise. They gave our class two magnets that are in the shape of Romania with a picture of their town on them. It was a good way to end our week.

Fall Festival

November 2, 2007 by kleineklein

Fall Festival is one of my favorite events at VCS. It reminds me of the Halloween carnival we used to have in Idyllwild when I was little. It’s a time where the whole community comes to the school to play games like Fishing for Treasure, Ping Pong Ball Races, Potato Sack Races, and Ring Toss. Each year there is also a chance for the high school students to pie their favorite teachers. This years pied teachers were Mr. Gardner, Miss Conrad, Mr. Richards, and Miss Woodbury. It’s important to note that if you are on a team with Mr. Richards, you’re probably going to be pied. He “wins” every year. It’s kind of a tradition. 🙂

The other fun thing about Fall Festival is that it is also the Fall Choir Concert. The elementary students and the middle and high school choirs all get to perform the music they have been learning. As usual, it was a great concert!

You can see a bunch of Fall Festival pictures on my Flickr! site. Just click the link to the left. Enjoy!
