A Season of Firsts

February 9, 2009 by kleineklein

Christmas

We just celebrated six months of marriage. It has been amazing! As February begins,  we have been able to reflect on a season of firsts.

Our first Thanksgiving was fun – and delicious. We spent it with several friends, gorging ourselves on all the Thanksgiving regulars. I even made my first pumpkin pie from scratch. It was pretty yummy. 🙂

Our first Christmas was all we were hoping for – relaxing. Thanks to my family, our tree was overflowing with tasty American treats and lots of Phillies’ World Series paraphernalia.

Our first New Year’s Eve was, well, cold. We went out to view the fireworks, then came home where it was warm. It was fun to be able to reflect on all that has happened this past year, especially since it was this time last year that we decided to get married. A lot can happen in  a year!

The best part of all of this has been enjoying our time together, building traditions, and discovering new ways to keep Christ at the center of our celebrations. I can’t wait for a season of seconds!

MS Boys Basketball

February 9, 2009 by Matt

Middle School Basketball I’m currently in the midst of basketball season with the middle school boys here at VCS.  We’ve had a lot of fun in practice, games, and on road trips.

Our current record is 1-4, but that doesn’t reflect the massive improvement I’ve seen this season. Another team even commented on how much they’ve improved since the last time we played!

We returned only three players from last season, but the new recruits are catching on quickly. Our last two games against QSI Bratislava and DIS were lost by 3 and 5 points respectively and were very well played. A few breaks here and there and we’d be 3-2 instead of 1-4.

We’ve got three more games on our schedule during the last week of February. Please pray that we will grow as a team in the next couple of weeks and perform well in our games.

More basketball pictures can be found on our Flickr site.

The Journey

December 9, 2008 by Matt

The Journey VCS It’s not a band. It’s a church type thing.

This ministry is the brainchild of Thomas, a friend of mine on staff, and I think it will be a great thing for many of the students here at school.  Our school is at a point where we have kids who have become believers, but for one reason or another cannot be part of a local church.  The Journey was created to fill that void.

We had our first meeting last week and were encouraged by the number of students who showed up to worship God and learn more about Him.

Please pray for the leadership of The Journey as we seek to make this a valuable experience for the students involved. Also pray for the students, that they would learn what it is to be part of a church community and be blessed by the experience.

More Pictures are here.

Bailing out Poland

December 8, 2008 by Matt

I came across this article in the International Herald Tribune last week.

I also came across what I’m hoping is a typo(highlighted). Though it is possible you may get a little more bang for your Euro in Poland. I mean 31 Euro is like 40 bucks, which is 120 Polish Zloty.

Do you know how many Polish sausages you can buy for 120 Zloty? Yeah, neither do I.

Good luck, my Polish friends.

Sweet Sounds

November 25, 2008 by kleineklein

I’m sitting here listening to the sweetest sound. One of my second grade reading students is illustrating a story he wrote. While he’s working, he’s singing a praise song about loving Jesus. What a way to get to spend my days!
