Monotasker

June 1, 2011 by Matt

After school, some students are in my room working on a project. Another student who is bored is talking to me.

Me: I can’t talk now. I need a few minutes to get some things done.

Student: (Continues talking about something unimportant)

Me: Hold on. Just let me finish a few things, and then I can talk to you.

Student: Are you frustrated?

Me: I’m a little stressed. I need to do a few things right now.

Student: Can’t you do two things at once?

Me (puzzled): No.

Student: Why not?

Me: Because I’m a man.

Track Meet!

May 24, 2011 by Matt

Track '11This past Saturday the ICSV track team woke up at the crack of dawn, traveled to school, and promptly fell back asleep as we drove 3 hours to Budapest for first and only track meet this season.

I couldn’t be any prouder of how this team competed on Saturday. Though we only took 10 athletes to the meet, we managed to pull out 3rd place (out of 5 teams). And we had a lot of fun doing it!

Here is our medal breakdown:

Gold: Boys Shot Put, Boys Discus, Boys 400M Hurdles
Silver: Girls 4X100
Bronze: Girls Long Jump

We also had several close 4th place finishes and plenty of personal bests. This team is such a pleasure to coach and a lot of fun to be around. I can’t wait til next year!

More pictures to come. Stay tuned!

Auf Wiedersehen!

May 3, 2011 by kleineklein

It’s that time of year again. We had our annual staff dinner last night. This is the night we set aside to honor folks who’ve served at ICSV. Along with acknowledging the people who’ve served here for 5, 10, and even 20 years, this is also the time we start saying goodbye to the folks who are headed home. ย I kinda hate this night.

I’m going to miss these faces!

The Newlywed Game

April 5, 2011 by kleineklein

Newlywed Game

On March 31, Matt and I were the victors in a nail-biting edition of the ICSV Newlywed Game. Well, maybe it wasn’t nail-biting, but it was really fun! This event was a fundraiser for the sophomore class. They had a yummy international dinner and the Stocketts, Rings, and Kleins provided the entertainment. Some of the questions we had to answer were:

  • If your husband could plan a guys night anywhere in the world, where would he go and what would he do?

Easy! He’d go to Citizen’s Bank Park to watch the Phillies win. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • If your husband were to fix you dinner, what would he make?

Not so easy. The thing he always makes doesn’t have a name, so it was a little tricky to answer.

  • What one habit of your husband’s would you like to change?

Easy! Leaving his empty soda bottles on the table instead of recycling them. Grrr. Apparently, continuously nagging him about this paid off.

  • What will your wife say is the best vacation you’ve taken together?

Easy! Paris!

  • What game does your wife always beat you at?

Not so easy. Too many choices. ๐Ÿ˜‰ He said Scrabble. I said Cribbage. Technically, we’re both right.

  • What is the most money your wife has spent on a dress since you’ve been married?

Not so easy. Huge kudos to Matt, though, because not only did he remember the price, but he remembered the dress AND why I bought it. Me, I couldn’t remember any of that.

We had a great time, and not just because we won. Great job sophomores!

International Family Fun Night

April 4, 2011 by kleineklein

IFFN

On March 11, PTF had our second big event of the year – International Family Fun Night. This really is one of the most amazing events at our school. It’s an evening dedicated to celebrating all of the rich cultures that make up our community.

The first half of the night is spent “visiting” different countries. Families take over an elementary classroom and transform it into a showcase of their culture. This year six families volunteered to share about their home cultures. We learned about Great Britain, Ethiopia, India, Peru, South Korea, and the Philippines. So much rich culture, and so much amazing food!

The school is celebrating it’s 25 year anniversary this year, so Reesa and Nicki made a HUGE cake to help us celebrate. It took them eight days! It only took the rest of two hours to eat it. ๐Ÿ™‚

IFFN

The second half of the night is spent watching our amazing students, parents, and teachers share their multi-cultural talents. We got to watch some beautiful Indian dancing, an African skit, and American line dancing. We got to hear a Maori praise haka, an international friendship song, the New Zealand national anthem, a Korean zither and drum duet, a traditional Filipino song, and an American ode to Pringles. We are surrounded by some pretty amazing talent!
