Elementary SEW – Friday

Friday

On Friday, Jerry shared with the students about how once we are saved by the blood of Christ, there is nothing that can separate us from Him. He talked about what it means to be free in Christ. We are free to be good. We are also free to give in to sin, but we’ll be miserable. He shared from Romans 6 about how the Lord has promised that our sin was covered once and for all on the cross.

We love Uncle Jerry and Aunt Michaela and, as always, we are sad to see them go. We are so thankful that they are a part of the ICSV family and grateful because we know we will see them again.

Elementary SEW – Thursday

Elementary SEW
On Thursday, Jerry shared the Gospel with the students. He talked to them about trust and faith. Then he shared with them that Christianity is not about saying yes to a religion. It’s about a relationship with Jesus. He shared Romans 3:23-24 and Romans 6:23 while explaining that even the best among us is still full of sin. Then Jerry shared Ephesians 2:8 and explained how Jesus took all of his righteousness to the cross to pay the price for that sin. He shared that salvation is a gift. There is nothing we can do to earn it. We just need to accept it. Christ paid our debt, and all we need to do is receive that gift.

Twenty six students stayed after chapel to pray with Jerry. Please pray for the teachers who will be following up with these students in the coming weeks. Please also pray for the families of these students. For the families who are raising their children in the Lord as well as the ones who don’t know Jesus themselves. Most importantly, please pray for the students. Pray that Jesus will be real for them and that they will truly know what it is to walk in grace.

Elementary SEW – Wednesday

March 3, 2011 by kleineklein

Every other Wednesday, I get the opportunity to hang out with some of my favorite students. We have small groups called DIVE that meet during the middle school chapel time. During DIVE, I get to hang out with four amazing girls. These girls, in fact:

DIVE

This week we spent our time writing notes of encouragement to a sick friend. Since I was spending time with these awesome ladies, I didn’t get to attend elementary chapel. However, I did catch a quick glimpse of Jerry and Michaela doing this:

Looks like they were having fun while they continued to talk to the kids about Jesus!

Elementary SEW – Tuesday

Tuesday

On Tuesday, Jerry continued to share lessons from the book of Romans. He talked about how we all sin, but Jesus chose to die on the cross to cover that sin. The amazing thing is that there is no sin too big to be covered by the blood of Jesus because it’s never about how good we are, but rather it is always about how good God is. I pray that this truth will reach deep into the hearts of the students and parents that were in chapel. Won’t you pray with me?

Elementary SEW – Monday

March 1, 2011 by kleineklein

Monday

Yesterday was the first day of Elementary Spiritual Emphasis Week (SEW). Our dear friends Jerry and Michaela Jacoby are back again this year to teach the students about the love of Jesus. This is the Jacoby’s seventh year visiting ICSV, and we are so glad they’re back! In reflecting on the years spent with the Jacobys, I’ve been feeling very encouraged by their commitment to the ministry of ICSV. In such a transient community, it is a true blessing to have folks who are willing to be a part of the students lives year after year. The kids get so excited when Uncle Jerry and Aunt Michaela come to Vienna because they know that these are two people who love them with the love of Jesus. That is a huge gift!

On Monday, Jerry talked to the kids about trusting the Lord. He compared the story of the Israelites creating a golden calf when Moses went to the mountain to the story of Paul on the road to Damascus. In both stories God remained faithful. The trust of his children makes the difference in how the Lord is able to use them. Regardless of our circumstances, God remains the same. He remains faithful. Our job is to trust him.

Jerry also gave an assembly for the middle school kids yesterday. He talked about the freedom that we have in Christ. My favorite thing that Jerry shared during this assembly is this:

“When you’re not worried about impressing people, you are free to dump class and respect all over everyone you meet.”

I love the concept of being so free in Christ that we can treat others amazingly well. Beautiful!

Please join us in praying for Jerry, Michaela, and the students of ICSV. Pray for wisdom for the Jacobys and the staff as we share the gospel and answer questions from the students. Please also pray for the students and parents to have open hearts as they hear the message of Jesus’s saving grace. Our verse for this week is Romans 1:17. Please pray that the truth of this verse speaks to our students.
