I Am Second No comments yet

A few weeks ago our friend Thomas introduced us to a website called I Am Second. The site is full of video testimonies about what it means to follow Christ. They are very well done and tell a wide variety of stories. I highly recommend watching. Here are a few that touched my heart:

Jason Castro (Yes, I’m a huge American Idol fan. :) )

Karen Green

John Meador

Nate Larkin

Shawna

Brian Welch

I’m curious – which ones do you like?

The latest installment of my videography commercial project is here. My students were asked to find a commercial on Youtube and use it as a template for their own commercial.

Below is the original commercial followed by the student’s version:

If you missed the first project of this type that I posted, check it out here:

No Flash! 3 comments

This week’s theme at I Heart Faces is “No Flash!” The flash is actually the one thing on my camera that I feel comfortable turning off, so this week is great. :)

Here’s my kids’ entry. It’s from a day ice skating. I think that all of my favorite student pictures come from ice skating. They’re just so happy out there.

My adult entry is  a picture from our trip to Prague a few years ago. It’s a big tradition in much of Eastern Europe to paint hollowed out eggs and hang them from pussy willow branches for Easter. During Lent, there are Easter markets (Ostermärkte) everywhere. I try to limit myself to two eggs a year so I won’t get carried away. They are simply beautiful, and so much variety. While we were in Prague, we met this lady who was hand painting her eggs right there while we got to watch. Amazing!

Join The Track! No comments yet

VCS Track Meet - Crop Track season began today and I’ve gotten a lot of help recruiting team members from my favorite Korean runner. She’s also my only Korean runner, but that’s besides the point…

“Join the track!” she says to everyone she comes in contact with. I’m looking forward to having a lot of fun this season, and she is determined to make sure there is a team to enjoy.

Please keep the track team in your prayers this spring as we start getting into shape and preparing for track meets.

Green is the theme at I Heart Faces this week.

My kids entry is this cute little guy who had his face painted as a white tiger at Fall Festival last year. He’s giving me his “tiger face.”

My adult entry is a picture of Bethany and the Barrel of Monkeys game. She’s also sporting a monkey hat because monkeys were the theme at Matt’s birthday party last year. Hmmm… maybe I should have saved this in case I Heart Faces has a monkey theme one week.

Elementary Ice Skating No comments yet

Each year the entire elementary school goes ice skating one day a week for about a month as part of their PE curriculum. It really is such a fun time. There are a lot of pictures of this here: Ice Skating Photos

This year I captured a few videos for you to enjoy.

Diana demonstrates skating grace:

Oenjdipa demonstrates skating rhythm (off the ice!):

and Miss Stevens, well Miss Stevens demonstrates some serious dancing skills:

Family Fun Night No comments yet

Family Fun Night This post is about a month overdue as Family Fun Night was February 20th. However, seeing as it is one of my favorite school events, it’s worth telling you about – even if it’s belated. :)

Family Fun Night is an annual event at VCS. Different families sign-up to host rooms that represent their country or continent. Each room has different activities meant to teach the visitors a little something about that country. This year we had Czech Republic, South America, Africa, Switzerland, and France. I was adopted by my friend Petra and her mother to be part of the Swiss contingent. (That’s why I have braids like Heidi!)

During the first half of the evening, families visit the various rooms and complete activities for a stamp in their passports. If they get all the stamps, they get a free book from the booksale. During the second half of the evening, different families perform with a variety of talents. This year we had poetry, singing, dancing, and a great skit about the saving grace of Jesus.

I love this night not only because of the cultural richness, but because it is one of the opportunities we have to spend extra time with the parents of our students. There are lots of pictures of this event here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gidgetz/sets

Here’s a video of the Africa club singing “Soon and Very Soon.” Enjoy!

The End of the Season No comments yet

Middle School Basketball Basketball season is over. We had such a good time coaching this year. Both the boys’ and the girls’ teams grew so much during the season. My favorite example of this is the sweet girl pictured to the right who was scared to death to even be on the court at the beginning of the season. During our last game, she was on the bench next to me and she looked at Whitney (our head coach) and said, “Miss G. sub me in! I will box-out all those ladies!” It was fantastic.
